AirTrain is affordable.
  • Use a Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard and pay $5 per ride.
  • Buy the Unlimited Ride MetroCard for AirTrain for $40, and pay less than $1 per ride.
Children under 5 ride free. The $40 Unlimited Ride MetroCard for AirTrain is the only reduced fee MetroCard for AirTrain. If you use the LIRR, subway, or a local bus to connect to or from AirTrain, you must also pay the applicable fare.

Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard
The Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard can be purchased at Howard Beach and Jamaica stations, at LIRR and subway stations, and at MetroCard vendors throughout the airport and New York City. With the Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard, you can:
  • Ride when you want. Can be used by up to 4 people at a time.
  • Buy as many AirTrain, subway, or local bus rides as you want with the same MetroCard (min. purchase $4 and max. purchase $80).
  • Put $7 or more on your card and receive a 15 percent bonus. See sample fares with 15% bonus.

  • Get an automatic free transfer between subways and local buses, or between local buses, but not between subway or bus and AirTrain.
If you connect to the LIRR from AirTrain, you can purchase a LIRR one-way ticket with a $5 MetroCard at LIRR ticket machines located inside the AirTrain station in Jamaica.

Unlimited Ride MetroCard for AirTrain (Two kinds)
  • 30-day MetroCard for AirTrain: Valid on the first day of use and expires at midnight on the 30th day of use. It can be purchased at MetroCard vending machines with the AirTrain logo located in Howard Beach and Jamaica stations and at MetroCard vendors in and around the airport.

  • Monthly MetroCard for AirTrain: Valid for a calendar month and also is available with a monthly LIRR ticket. It can be purchased only at LIRR ticket machines with the AirTrain logo located at the exit from AirTrain in Jamaica Station.
The Unlimited Ride MetroCard for AirTrain will work only at the AirTrain fee gates in Howard Beach and Jamaica stations, and cannot be used again at the same AirTrain station for 18 minutes. It cannot be combined with any other MetroCard, so if you use the subway or local bus, you will need another MetroCard to pay the subway or bus fare.

Ticket Machines
MetroCard vending machines and LIRR ticket machines accept cash (U.S. currency only), credit cards, and debit cards. MetroCard machines return up to $6 in change (coin). LIRR machines return up to $17.75 in change (coin).

Ride AirTrain for free.
All AirTrain rides within the airport are free. If you use AirTrain to connect between the airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttles, and rental car facilities, there's no fee to pay and no ticket is required.
